The town Colico
The Colico territory is characterized by a unique natural environment, which is very varied. Rarely you find so many beautiful natural elements in onw area together. Behind the village stands the imposing mountain: Monte Lengonone, with its 2610 meters high. The Monte Legnone is characterized by diverse vegetation, depending on the height: plants, broadleef trees, conifers, grassland and vegetation that grows only at higt altitude. In front of Colico is Lake Como, which has its origins from a glacier.
The base of the mountain is split by three small rivers: Inganna, Perlino and the Merla. The area between them is very fertile and cultivated for centuries but is now densely populated. The area on the lake, once swampy, now home to many tourist facilities and services. Characteristic of Colico are the four hills: the three Montecchi hills and the hill on the Olgiasca peninsula who survived the erosion of the glacial erosion. Since the 18th century the hills are also part of the municipal coat of arms.
